How To Lighten Your Eyebrows Naturally

Hydrogen Peroxide Solution 3%

Lightening your eyebrows can make a world of difference, I have been doing it with boxed bleach for years now but recently I have discovered a new easier, cheaper, safer and more natural way to do it.  By using  the regular Hydrogen Peroxide that you find at the drugstore for cuts and insect bites.

A few reasons I found lightning with Hydrogen Peroxide better then with Boxed Bleach.

  •  Less irritation especially if you use a retinoids or glycolic acids your skin is sensitive and the bleach burns the skin around the brow.

  •  Less Brass! Because it is more gradual then boxed bleach you have better control of the colour outcome, especially if you have red pigment in your hair you will have it in your eyebrows as well and the boxed bleach can make them brassy.

  •  More natural color

  • No mess! All you do is rinse it off your eyebrows, nothing to mix or measure.

  • Super inexpensive, I got a whole bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide for a $1.99

Supplies Needed.

+ 3% Hydrogen Peroxide ( found at any drugstore , grocery store, pharmacy)
+ Q-tips
+ Cotton Pads

Instructions:

1. Saturate your q-tip in the Hydrogen peroxide ( make sure none is dripping off so you don't get it into your eye)

2. Gently go over our eye brows combing then in the direction they normally sit

3. Leave on anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, If you have light fine and/or sparce eyebrows you will need to leave it on for a very short amount of time, the darker and thicker your eyebrows the more time is needed. You may need to reapply the hydrogen peroxide if you have darker eyebrows as it will dry. Because the hydrogen peroxide is clear you will see what colour your eyebrows are and when you have achived your desired shade.

4. When you have achieved your desired shade, wet a cotton pad in cold water and wipe the eyebrows

5. Follow with a cold water rinse of your brows.

    1. Scientifically yes, but I was refereeing using it as opposed to boxed cream hair bleach which much more potent and harsh. But I will defiantly change the title to not be misleading
      Thank you

    1. Sorry to here that, how long did you leave it on and did you reapply frequently? I find if you have thicker eyebrows the process takes longer and reapplication is necessary.

    2. I have nearly black hair. I sleep in a developer mask (it's peroxide) for 8 hours (after adding a ton of coconut & jojoba oil) and I get a few shades lighter overnight. For eyebrows it takes more effort because the short hair allows it all to evaporate more quickly. I have to do it a few days in a row since I need hours and hours for the color I want. I try to stay a bit darker since I'm pale and it looks almost bald on me if I'm not careful.

  5. Hello, so i have ombre hair and my roots are finally growing back. My hair is naturally dark brown but my eyebrows are jet black which i have no idea why! It does not match and would like to use this method. How long or how many times would i have to apply this? Would i just need to apply it and leave it to dry? Thanks xx

    1. Hi, I have the same issue with my eyebrows, light hair dark brows.
You definitely need to reapply, it takes me usually around 40 minutes of having it on my eyebrows to get it to the color I like. I usually reapply every 5-10 minutes while watching TV .Just know at first you will think it's not lighting them at all but around the 4th time you reapply you will notice they lighten drastically. I have had people tell me it doesn't work but it's just about finding the right time to keep the peroxide on and to reapply frequently till you get your desired color which really depends from person to person. The best part is it will only take long the first time you do it after that it's just 5- 10 minutes to maintain.
      Hope that helps!

    1. Hi
      I think it depends
Mine are black as well, and I have red tones in my hair and I get a pretty natrual brown color.
I can tell you it will definitely not be as brassy or red if you were to use boxed bleach.
I know some people get purple shampoo and you can leave it on your eyebrows for a few minutes to tone them down even further.

  8. If I may: you can get stronger results with a cream developer. It's still peroxide, and you can go for 40 volume if you want faster results.

As with the hair on your head, you still need to color tone. Hair is hair. If you want blonde, color tone with blue. You won't notice the brassy color with peroxide/developer until you lift to what's usually a Level 4. Chart => http://www.hairfad.com/images/hair-color-levels.png

For more red, color tone with purple. Most like to use Manic Panic for this (vege dye) and use a pure white conditioner like Tresseme' to mix it in for application. Unless you naturally have blue-black hair, pretty much all hair is brown, even if it looks black. Dark chocolate brown hair will lighten to a strong copper, as mine does. You're always going to get an reddish brown after any form of lightening or bleaching.

  12. So I tried your method, and it was great tip! I definitely see some results :) But once I get the color I want it, will my brows stay that color? Or will I have to eventually re-apply this method again?

    1. They wont, you need to maintain it maybe every two weeks but you wont have to keep it on as long as you did the first time. Just kind of few minutes, you will see as weeks go by they gradually start getting dark again.

  13. I read your post, went out and bought 6% hydrogen peroxide (the drugstore didn't have the 3% one), followed your instructions and WOW I have to say I'm very happy with the results. Having naturally black eyebrows, I expected them to turn sort of mousy brown, but they actually turned a warm, light brown color which compliments my strawberry red hair. It took me two hours and a lot of reapplying to get them to my desired color, but it payed off.

    1. So glad it worked out for you.
Yeah it takes quite a while to get it the first time, but to maintain is much easier!

    1. It really depends, mine are basically black and it takes me about 40 minutes, but after that to maintain about 5 minutes every two weeks.
The best thing is to regularly check until you see what you like. Since it's clear and will not lighten quickly you have alot of control.

  15. Hi, my eyebrows are really really black and they grow really fast. The method sounds great but I'm worried about having black eyebrow roots, I think it's gonna show up really fast, are there any ways to disguise it until the roots are long enough for me to use the peroxide again?

    1. The roots won't show, mine are jet black too, but once they start going dark again the whole hair kind of darkens, so there is no visable root. It doesn't look bad once they start going dark, like there isn't an akward growth like when you dye your hair.

  16. This worked so well! I have very dark eyebrows and my hair is colored light brown with blonde tints. The whole process took quite a long time so be patient. I kept re-applying the peroxide every 10 minutes. My eyebrows came out to a lovely brown color and make my green eyes pop now! The results were awesome, salon worthy and I saved $$$$. Thanks so much!

  17. I've been searching for ways to lighten my brows. I used eyebrow mascara but it made my brows look orangey and unnatural. I'm so excited to try this!

  18. Is this method permanent? I would like to try it but if its permanent I may hesitate a little

    1. No it's not, your eyebrows should be back to the original state in 2-3 weeks even after one week you will see them going back, thats why I do this weekly to maintain the original result.

    1. I really don't know. i know I used one a few years ago and the results were a bit too much, I basically bleached threm white and had to dye them back.
I would maybe do a small patch test.
