Sugar Free Granola

This granola really satisfies my need for crunchy cereals with out the added extra sugar, it is easily made gluten free, just make sure your oats are labeled gluten free.  There are no syrups or a lot of oils in it I added applesauce to add natural sweetness and eliminate the need for more oil just a bit healthy coconut oil. It is a basic recipes so you can add and subtract from it according to your likes and dislikes.

Ingredients

1 Cup Oatmeal
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 Apple chopped
1/2 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1 Tablespoon coconut flakes (optional)
11/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Set oven to 300 F (150 C)
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper
  • Combine oatmeal, walnuts, chopped apple, coconut flakes and cinnamon stir to combine.
  • Add Apple sauce and oil and stir till well combined.
  • Space out the mixture on the cookie sheet
  • Bake for an Hour and 10 minutes
  • Stir with a fork every 15 -20 minutes
  • Remove from oven and let cool on the sheet

Substitutes and Additions

  • If you are watching your calories, you could substitute almonds for the walnuts
  • Omit the apple all together to get just a basic granola with out apples
  • If you would like it sweeter add a couple teaspoons of brown sugar
  • Add sunflower seeds
  • Add a little spice with a some ground ginger
  • Add some dried fruits, cherries, cranberries, dates, figs

Enjoy!
